Department of Philosophy News - December 2011

With the end of the year approaching, the Department of Philosophy is pleased to share a few updates from our faculty members.

If you haven’t dropped by the department’s website recently, please do so at http://www.humboldt.edu/philosophy/. At the bottom of the page you’ll notice an opportunity to share updates with your fellow alumni about recent major changes in your life.

HSU Professor of Philosophy John Powell has 1) presented to the East-West Philosophers’ Conference in Hawaii in May, on the topic, “Theory as Authority” using just war theory and pacifism as material; 2) had his manuscript on “Definitions: What Plato Would Say in His Cups” accepted for a forthcoming issue of the journal Metaphilosophy; and 3) received notice that his paper, “Are Wittgenstein’s Pictures Psychology or Philosophy? (Hint: No)” delivered in Leipzig, Germany, for the conference Wittgenstein: Philosophie und Wissenschaft, will be published in a volume by that same title by Felix Meiner Verlag in spring 2012.
