Alma Zechman Forestry & Wildland Resources

The Forestry and Wildland Resources Department is happy to announce a guest lecture for the L.W. Schatz Forestry Seminar Series:

Date: Tuesday, April 17
Time: 5-6 pm
Location: Founders Hall 118

Speaker: Dr. Emily Burns, Director of Science, Save the Redwoods League

Title: In the Shadow of Giants: Ferns of the Coast Redwood Forest

Topic: Under every coast redwood canopy is an intriguing and diverse assemblage of herbaceous plants adapted to life on the forest floor. Without the water storage capacity of redwoods, plants like the Western sword fern exhibit dynamic responses to fog and changing weather patterns. Tracking sword fern not only reveals many fascinating aspects of their poorly understood biology, but also provides insight into coast redwood forest water balance.
