23nd Annual Social Justice Summit MultiCultural Center
The HSU MultiCultural Center will present the 23nd Annual Social Justice Summit on March 3rd and 4th, 2017. Our stories are power sites for understanding and building relationships. In the era of our current world we need to understand how we arrived here because how we remember the past, defines our present, and molds our future. We are thousands of years of resistance from oppression, from the silencing power of domination.
Our vision for this year’s Social Justice Summit was to highlight tools for non-violent expressions. The theme ‘Art as Social Activism’ seeks to provide tools for effective advocacy, artful expression, and active ways to change the world through the words we use. In recent times humanity has been tested with cracks in our global world. Words are tools that have shaped the world around us. We have become divided through the labels, borders, and walls we have built. The Summit aspires to provide tools for emotional, artful expression, tools to shape voices for change.
Do you want to be involved in the Social Justice Summit? Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to be involved in the Social Justice Summit by enrolling in the class, presenting a workshop, volunteering, or registering to participate in the Summit.
The Social Justice Summit theme this year is “Art as Social Activism” There is a one-unit course offered in Ethnic Studies and Women’s Studies that coincides with the Social Justice Summit. The Summit is free to HSU Students and the community. Registration for the Summit and for the class is through Extended Learning.
