Activities, Special Programs to Help Ease Stress of Finals

Resources and relaxation programs are set up for the final two weeks of the semester to help students successfully navigate exams and projects.

Humboldt State’s Library presents a study skills workshop, “Reducing Test Anxiety,” on Tuesday, May 5, from noon to 12:50 p.m. in room 114. Students can register for the workshop at humboldt.libcal.com/workshops.

Associated Students and the Learning Center will collaborate on a finals week study lounge that will be available in the University Center South Lounge between 6 p.m. and midnight, Sunday, May 10, through Tuesday, May 12. Free drop-in tutoring services will be offered for specific classes and writing assistance. Drop-in Tutoring Schedule

Stress-relieving therapy dogs will again comfort students needing a break from studying. Provided by Therapy Dogs International and the HSU Student Recreation & Wellness Center, the dogs will visit the Library lobby from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, May 11, and the Library lawn from noon to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 12.

A “Creation & Relaxation Station,” featuring LEGO® building blocks will be available in the Library outside the Café from May 4 to 15 during all open hours. The first-time offering is based on studies that indicate working on simple creative tasks prior to learning new material helps with memory retention, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Student Engagement & Leadership (SEALS) is hosting a “Pre-Final De-Stressor Extravaganza” on Friday, May 8, in the University Center South Lounge. Beginning at noon, games and snacks will be available for anyone dropping in. For more information, email triggs@humboldt.edu.

On the Quad, Youth Education Services (YES) will demonstrate its New Games program, in which volunteers work with elementary and middle school children to teach them about teamwork, unity and responsibility through games. All HSU students are invited to participate in the special session.
