The Humboldt State University community is leading donation drives to help victims of the Sonoma and Napa county fires.
Supplies such as phone chargers, pet food, and personal hygiene products can be dropped off at the Associated Students office in the South Lounge at University Center. Go to the Associated Students website for a full list of items suggested for donation.
AS Member Dana Carrillo says many friends of hers in the HSU community had family members displaced and homes burned down. “I had to do something for my friends, and more importantly for my new home and community- Northern California,” she says.
The Humboldt State Softball program is also gathering school supplies and necessities for two schools in Santa Rosa: Cardinal Newman High School, which was heavily damaged, and Hidden Valley Satellite School — an elementary school destroyed by the fire.
“These fires have really hit home for a lot of our students and athletes here at HSU as well as other student-athletes in the CCAA,” says Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. “When something like this happens this close to home, we want to do whatever we can to get involved and help out those who have been impacted. Although we can never replace what has been lost, we hope to make the impact just a little less by doing what we can to help.”
Suggested donation items, listed below, can be dropped off at the HSU Athletics Department. The deadline to donate is Wednesday, Oct. 18. For questions regarding donations, contact Sarchett at firstname.lastname@example.org.
