Library Exhibit on Forest Communities » The exhibit "Northwestern California Forest Communities" continues at the HSU Library through January 29, celebrating the Library's contributions to Calisphere, an exciting new web site launched by the California Digital Library in August. Calisphere is a free public gateway to thousands of primary sources that reveal the diverse history and culture of California and its role in national and world history. The HSU Library is one of 19 California libraries selected in 2005-06 through the California State Library to digitize 225 of local historical documents to add to Calisphere

Voice and Orchestra Make Sacred Music » "The cross-fertilization of instrument and voice has given the world some of it's most memorable music," commented Kenneth Ayoob, HSU Professor of Music and Conductor of the Humboldt Symphony. This evocative combination will be exemplified on Friday, December 8 and again on Sunday, December 10, when the Humboldt Symphony joins forces with the Humboldt University Singers and Humboldt Chorale to perform a 20th century "Gloria" for the sacred season.

Madrigal Singers Cap Big HSU Music Weekend » It's a mad Madrigal world as the HSU Madrigal Singers in Renaissance costume present a program of traditional carols, madrigals, solos and duets to usher in the holiday season on Sunday, December 3rd at 8 PM in the Fulkerson Recital Hall on the HSU campus.

Theatrical Comedy “School For Scandal” Opens Nov. 30 » Things haven't changed a lot since the first performance of Richard Sheridan's The School for Scandal in the late eighteenth century. Surrounded by war and revolution, the smart set of London still devoted considerable energy to gossip, tabloid journalism, and bedroom intrigue.

First Street: Angels Over Eureka » Humboldt State University First Street Gallery is set to open a new exhibit: "Angels," a one-woman show by local artist Gwen Thoele. Her oil paintings will be on display November 28 through December 22, 2006.
Students Produce 12-Artist Exhibition » Humboldt State University First Street Gallery announces "A Holiday Invitational Exhibition" opening November 28 and continuing through December 22. Featured in the show will be artwork by twelve artists from California's North Coast, who work in diverse styles and mediums.

From Sublime to Ridiculous with Opera Workshop » From Sondheim's The Frogs to Mozart's The Magic Flute, and from Gilbert and Sullivan to a contemporary spoof on dreams of stardom, the HSU Opera Workshop student singers present an eclectic program of selections from musical theatre, opera, and operetta, Friday, November 3 and again on Sunday, November 5 in the Fulkerson Recital Hall on the HSU campus in Arcata. Both shows start at 8 p.m.

HSU Alum’s Play Premieres Oct. 12 » "Range of Light," a new play by HSU alum Wendy J. Williams ('02), premieres Thursday through Saturday, Oct.12-14, and Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 19-21, at Humboldt State's Van Duzer Theatre. The new curtain time is 7:30 p.m.

Sneak Preview of “Dispensing Cannabis” documentary » Dispensing Cannabis: The California Story is a one-hour documentary film, produced and directed by Humboldt State University film professor Ann Alter with a collaborative team of HSU students. It will be presented to the public for the first time in a free sneak preview at the Minor Theatre in Arcata on Thursday, October 5. Kenny Werner Trio to present Jazz Concert and Master Class » The Redwood Jazz Alliance and the HSU Music Department are proud to present an evening of jazz with the world-renowned Kenny Werner Trio. Fresh from the Green Mill in Chicago, Werner's piano trio, featuring Johannes Weidenmueller on bass and Ari Hoenig on drums, will play Monday night, September 25th, at 7:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall on the campus of Humboldt State University in Arcata. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors and students with ID.
Adventurers Host Slideshow on Campus » National Geographic photographer Michael "Nick" Nichols and ecologist J. Michael Fay of National Geographic and the Wildlife Conservation Society will host a free slideshow and lecture -- The Last Place on Earth -- Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Humboldt State University's John Van Duzer Theater.

HSU Music Students Play in Reno » Five students from HSU's music department were invited to participate in the College Band Directors National Association Intercollegiate Band, an elite ensemble of outstanding musicians from small colleges throughout the western United States. The band performed in Reno, NV, on March 18, 2006 at the western division conference of the College Band Directors National Association.

Brass Band Plays on Campus » The HSU Department of Music presents The Humboldt Bay Brass Band (HBBB) in concert Saturday, April 8 at 8 p.m. in the Fulkerson Recital Hall, guests ranging from the serpent to the saxophone. Music will include renaissance dance music, fanfares of the German court played on long natural trumpets without valves, and music of the twentieth century.
