A keynote address from Richard Marcus, Professor and Director of the Global Studies Institute and the International Studies Program at CSU Long Beach, highlights the week on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room. An expert in African culture and politics, Marcus holds certificates in French language and civilization, the KiSwahili language, and the Malagasy language. His talk, which combines a unique mix of local and global issues, is titled “Governing the Global Uncommons: the tragedy of water resource complexity in Madagascar, Kenya, Israel, and Klamath USA.”

Participants can also learn about study abroad options and engage in workshops with HSU faculty members on topics ranging from international internships to a film seminar on Islam in West Africa.

Special guest Ambassador Lewis Lukens delivers a talk on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m., in the Library Fishbowl (Rm. 209). Lukens will discuss internship opportunities with the U.S. Dept. of State. Most recently Lukens served as US Ambassador to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, managing bilateral relations with both West African nations. Lewis has also served as Executive Secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, and Senior Director for Administration at the National Security Council.
