Double Play of Jazz at HSU

HSU turns a double play of jazz with ensemble concerts on Thursday, December 12 and Saturday, December 14 in Fulkerson Recital Hall.

First up is the AM Jazz Band on Thursday, performing tunes by jazz greats Cannonball Adderley, Lester Young and Freddie Hubbard, among other composers.

On Saturday, the larger Jazz Orchestra blurs musical boundaries with jazz arrangements of tunes from country to funk and Cuban pop. Jazz purists also get a taste with classics from the Duke Ellington and Count Basie bands, plus a brand new piece by young jazz composer Omar Thomas.

The Jazz Orchestra evening features vocals by Jo Kuzelka, and solos by pianist Alex Espe, clarinetist Nick Durant and guitarist Kris Lang.

Both concerts are in Fulkerson Recital Hall and begin at 8 p.m. Dan Aldag directs both ensembles. Tickets are $8, $5 for seniors and children, and free for HSU students with ID from the HSU Ticket Office (826-3928) or at the door. For more information visit HSUStage.blogspot.com.
