A community reception is set for Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit then runs from November 8 through December 8. The Kay Kang art exhibit will be part of Humboldt State University’s Dialogue on Race. Reflective of her experience of immigrating to the United States, Korean-born artist Kay Kang creates works that explore the issues of feminism, Korean Diaspora and the visual language of calligraphic characters and gestures. Working with a variety of mediums, which include painting, drawing and sculptural installation, the artist eloquently articulates the assimilation of her American experience with her Korean upbringing. Kay Kang received her MA degree from San Francisco State University, CA and her BS in audiovisual education from Ewha Women’s University, Seoul, Korea. The artist has exhibited in numerous galleries in the USA and Korea, including Oakland Art Gallery and the Seoul Museum of Art, (Seoul, Korea). Most recently she was invited for a career retrospective exhibition at SOMARTS Gallery in San Francisco.
