Faculty Sought for Career Expo

Humboldt State’s Career Center urges faculty to save the date for next semester’s Career Expo and Volunteer Fair and encourage student attendance at the Friday, Feb. 15 event, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the West Gym.

“We would love faculty to plan to stop by and attend, remind students to take advantage of this job opportunity and build the Expo into course syllabi,” said Rees Hughes, Director of the Career Center and Student Life.

Last year, nearly 90 employers and some 40 volunteer agencies joined in the Expo, which provides students with diverse opportunities for full- and part-time jobs, internships and volunteer work.

Broad faculty involvement encourages private sector participation, Hughes emphasized. “Because HSU is not a convenient stop for most employers, we want to make sure that they feel that the Expo and Fair are worth the effort,” he said. “Employers appreciate relationships with the campus in general, and faculty specifically. And there are many times when faculty-employer collaboration extends far beyond providing firms with quality new hires, including cooperation in research and economic and business development.”

Hughes said many recruiters are HSU alumni or have long-term, productive relationships with the University. “Employers and volunteer agencies really respond when faculty come by their booths at the Fair.”
