Gas Leak Repaired, Classes To Continue

*The following appeared on Humboldt State's Emergency Notifications page after a gas leak was discovered in the south west section of campus.* Update: Campus Officials are in the process of restoring full service to campus. Classes will continue as scheduled today and tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 13. No interruptions in building services are expected.

At 12:24 p.m. a gas line was discovered to have ruptured near the College Creek construction area. The leak prompted the evacuation of the Child Development Lab and other persons in the southwest area of campus. No injuries were reported.

The area is now open and no current danger exists.

Following the discovery, the University’s main gas line was temporarily shut off. University Police and the Arcata Fire Department responded to the scene. The leak was quickly contained and people have returned to the affected areas.

Some buildings may experience interruptions in their heating and ventilation systems as well as other systems reliant upon gas service. Plant Operations is working to restore gas throughout campus.
