Gender Neutral Bathrooms on Campus

Humboldt State has opened two gender-neutral bathrooms and a gender-neutral locker room on campus to meet the needs of transgender and gender non-conforming students, faculty and staff.

The bathrooms are located on the second floor of Founders Hall and outside the Recreation & Wellness Center. The locker room is located in the Kinesiology & Athletics building. All three facilities are single-stall, creating a safe and private space.

Trans and gender non-conforming people often experience harassment or violence in single-gender restrooms based on their gender. Gender-neutral facilities are designed to alleviate some of that stress, creating a more inclusive campus, said Traci Ferdolage, Associate Vice President of Facilities Management.

"Facilities Management is pleased to have worked with the campus community to create gender-neutral restrooms and locker rooms," said Ferdolage. "We consider these facilities an important step toward acknowledging the diversity of our campus."
