Health Data Training Comes to Humboldt

Arcata – The California Center for Rural Policy at Humboldt State University and a partner at UCLA are accepting applications for a health data training course that will be hosted in April and May by the Humboldt Area Foundation in Bayside.

The three-day program, titled Data & Democracy: Performing a Community Assessment, is a ‘train-the-trainer’ initiative. It will teach Humboldt community groups who assist under-served populations how to develop and apply health care data to achieve policy and program objectives.

The course and its materials will be free to representatives and volunteers of community-based organizations. Executive directors, health educators, program and grant managers, outreach coordinators and staff trainers are encouraged to apply, with up to two people per organization.

Sessions are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, Friday, April 24 and Friday, May 1 in the Humboldt Area Foundation Conference Room at 373 Indianola Road. The registration deadline is Monday, April 13. The first 25 applicants who meet eligibility criteria will be accepted. Registration can be completed online.

Applications also are available online (PDF).

Enrollees must attend all three training sessions and conduct a future community assessment workshop. Each will receive a stipend of $125.00.

The Data & Democracy effort is a partnership of HSU’s California Center for Rural Policy and the UCLA Center for Health Policy DATA Program. Other local partners include the Area 1 Agency on Aging and the Community Health Alliance. The course is funded by The California Endowment.
