HSU Associated Students Looking to Register 800 New Voters

The 2010 California election is set for Nov. 2, and Humboldt State’s Associated Students has set a goal of registering 800 new students by Oct. 18.

“We want HSU students to part of the movement that’s getting young people registered to vote and out to the polls,” says Jacob Alvarez, a electoral field officer with the California State Students Association.

Currently the CSSA is organizing campuses from San Diego to Humboldt in a bold initiative to register 30,000 students throughout the California State University system.

With the selection of a new governor and voting on several propositions happening Nov. 2, the election will be a critical decision making time for California that will affect the direction of the state, economy, and higher education.

The campus is competing against CSU Stanislaus to register the most students, with Humboldt State’s Associated Students setting a goal of registering 800 new voters.

The deadline to register to vote is October 18, 2010. Election Day is November 2, 2010.

Students can register to vote everyday through the deadline by stopping by the Associated Students office in the UC Building during business hours. AS will also be registering students during the day on the UC Quad and in The J during evenings.
