HSU/CR Host Book-of-the-Year Student Events

Humboldt State University and College of the Redwoods will host student presentations in February in Eureka and Crescent City about Malcolm Gladwell’s bestseller, _Outliers, The Story of Success_, the HSU/CR Book of the Year for 2012/13.

Outliers probes the divergent roots of societal achievement and failure and students who won $500 for their “Story of Success” assignments will share their narratives at free community events open to the public. Sara Carabajal and Alex Saldivar of Humboldt State will give their presentations on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka.

CR students Silas Knight, Dylan McClure, Emily Raper, Lydia Raper and Juan Salazar will present their stories the following evening, Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. in the library of CR’s Del Norte campus, 883 West Washington Boulevard, Crescent City.

Student topics range from publishing a novel via Kickstarter to joining a band in a foreign country and surveying fellow students about their definitions of success.

Gladwell’s popular book analyzes individual success, including that of the Beatles and Bill Gates.
