HSU Hosts California Big Time on April 5

Humboldt State University will host its seventh annual California Big Time and Social Gathering on Saturday, Apr. 5 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the West Gym.

The public celebration of Native American culture includes multiple song and dance performances, Native American regalia, an Indian Card Game Tournament, an academic “Amazing Race,” a competitive tour that introduces college-bound youngsters to the HSU campus as well as a Big Time Youth Basketball Tournament.

This year’s dance groups include the HSU Intertribal Drum group, The Tuolumne Mewuk Dance Group, Wiyot Brush Dancers and Red Cedar Drum.

Artists and vendors will also be on hand.

Humboldt State students organize Big Time to give the tribal community and Native students opportunities for cultural sharing and education.

Hosts include the university’s Native American Center for Academic Excellence, Indian Tribal & Educational Personnel Program, Native American Studies program and the MultiCultural Center, among others.
