HSU Hosts Summer Program for Chinese Students

Humboldt State University’s Center for International Programs is hosting an Intensive English Language summer program for more than 20 students from China through July 29. The 3-week long partnership with the Jiangxi Institute of International Education through Nanchang University provides linguistic and cultural immersion and community service activities to students from China’s Jiangxi province. The Center for International Programs is also currently hosting three other intensive English programs.

Highlights include:

Friday, July 18th

Service Learning at Potawot Garden. Students will learn about Potawot Garden, a community food program started through the United Indian Health Services, traditional Wiyot culture and the North Coast habitat. 1 p.m. at Potawot Garden, Ribeiro Lane, Arcata.

Tuesday, July 22nd

Service Learning with Friends of the Dunes. Friends of the Dunes staff will teach students how to remove invasive plant species from the dunes. 1 p.m. at 611 Peninsula Drive, Manila.

Wednesday, July 23rd

Humboldt Crab’s Baseball Game. Students will learn about one of America’s favorite pastimes in this double header. 5 p.m. Arcata Ballpark.

HSU’s Center for International Programs serves current and prospective international students, as well as HSU students interested in studying abroad. The center also operates the International English Language Institute for non-native English speakers.

Many HSU students study abroad each year through the Center for International Programs in collaboration with departments such as Environmental Resources Engineering, World Languages & Cultures, Anthropology and Geography. Several new faculty led study abroad programs are also being developed for summer 2015. HSU is home to foreign students from more than 20 countries, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America and the Middle East.
