HSU Logging Team Places Third in National Competition

During the week of March 23rd Humboldt State’s Logging Sports Team competed in the annual Association of Western Forestry Clubs (AWFC) competition hosted by Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Twelve western colleges were in attendance from Arizona to Montana and out of the over twenty teams from those colleges Humboldt secured third place overall.

Humboldt State competitors competed in a variety of events that simulate traditional logging skills including axe throwing, cross cut sawing, wood chopping, chainsaw bucking, log rolling (birling), tree climbing, and plant identification among others. Many individual competitors earned top 3 finishes in events including a few first place finishes.

The 2015 AWFC annual competition will be hosted next March by Humboldt State. The team is looking forward to showing off our school and region to the western logging sports teams. If you are interesting in joining the HSU logging sports team or want to learn more, email HSUloggers@Yahoo.com.
