HSU Students Donate Meal Points To Food Drive

Students at Humboldt State University have the opportunity between now and April 25 to donate a portion of their meal points as part of a regional food drive organized by the HSU Service Learning Center. Donated meal points will be used to purchase food from the school’s vendor, and these relief food supplies will be delivered directly to Food for People, the Food Bank for Humboldt County.

Jasmine Manuel, a Service Learning Intern and a student organizer of the food drive, said: “This is one of the simplest ways for students to get involved and promote change. Don’t let your points go to waste!”

This on-campus effort is part of a broader campaign against hunger. The Service Learning Center’s efforts are part of a nationwide movement, spurred by the National Feinstein Foundation, to alleviate hunger across the country. The more food and money that an agency collects regionally, the more money it receives nationally from the Feinstein Challenge.

Partners on campus include Youth Educational Services (Y.E.S.), the Residence Hall Association, Ron Rudebock and the entire Dining Services Staff.

To donate meal points, students should visit http://studentaffairs.humboldt.edu/slee/ to download a donation form. Once they fill out this form, students should return it to the Service Learning Center, Nelson Hall West (NHW) 139, until April 25. Student organizers of the food drive will also be tabling in the “J” during the hours of 5 pm to 7 pm, until April 24.

Students without points are able to donate canned food at the Service Learning Center, in NHW 139.
