Applications are being accepted from first-time freshmen, upper-division transfer students (60+ transferable units), returning students, veterans, international students, and graduate students.
First-time freshmen need to apply by the end of the California State University system’s application period, which ends Nov. 30, 2016. Transfers, returning students, and graduate students should check specific timelines and deadlines at humboldt.edu/admissions. The start of the application period coincides with the new filing period for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which helps determine eligibility for various types of aid from the U.S. Department of Education.
Under recent changes, students can submit their FAFSA for the 2017-18 school year as early as Oct. 1. This allows families to use tax information already filed for 2015 rather than estimated taxes from this year, and to automatically retrieve and import that info to students’ FAFSA application online.
At HSU, 70 percent of students receive some form of financial aid (state and federal grants, institutional aid, subsidized loans, etc.). Most low-income students receive about $10,000 in grant funding.

HSU is also hosting Fall Admissions Day on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016. It’s a chance for prospective students to meet one-on-one with HSU admissions counselors, who review Fall 2017 applications and can inform students right then whether they are admitted to Humboldt State.
Last year, HSU received a record number of applications for the fall 2016 semester. Through Nov. 30, applications from first-time freshmen increased 2.8 percent. The number of transfer students who applied to HSU increased by 12.3 percent.
