Memorial Grove Established at HSU

Humboldt State University has designated an area on the eastern portion of campus as memorial grove, which will be a place to celebrate the lives of those who were a part of the HSU community.

The space is a redwood grove between the science buildings and the Kinesiology & Athletics Building. Students use the space to relax and study between classes, and it has some trails and casual seating areas.

Donations will be used to create a new entry and reflection area this summer, with additional seating areas and other enhancements added in future years as funding becomes available.

Within the grove, family and friends will have the option of donating funds for small memorials. Plans call for the first such memorial to honor David Josiah Lawson, the HSU student who was killed nearly one year ago. It will be added sometime in the fall, when students are more likely to be available to participate in a ceremony.

Additional details about memorial grove, including how to memorialize a family member or friend from the HSU community, are being developed. For more information, contact the HSU Office of Philanthropy at 707.826.5200 or giving@humboldt.edu.
