Natural History Museum Seeks Artists

The HSU Natural History Museum is looking for artists interested helping the museum by decorating a three-legged stool. Proceeds from the stools will give the museum "A Leg to Stand On" when sold by silent auction at a 20th anniversary fundraiser, the first ever, "Prehistoric Ball” on October 24, 2009.

The stools are pre-made by a museum volunteer using legs from the original specimen cases brought to the museum with the collection 22 years ago. The stools are small—a 10.5 to 12 inch diameter circle on 9.5 inch high legs. Artists are invited to paint, tile, or somehow decorate the surface of the stool. "We’re hoping to be able to offer bidders some especially creative stools with a theme in keeping with the natural history museum," says Melissa Zielinksi, the museum's director.

If you are interested in decorating a stool please (707) 826-4476 or email mlz1@humboldt.edu by May 15th. The Museum is in constant need of community help to continue offering outstanding educational resources to local students and museum lovers. The fundraiser will be a fun way for the community to give support to the museum.
