Pinback, MC Chris play KBR

Associated Students Presents has a reputation for putting on great concerts at Humboldt State. Remember Lyrics Born at the ’06 Fall Harvest Fest? Or Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore thrilling live show in the Depot last October? That’s right, in the Depot. Any organization that can get the leader of one of alternative rock’s towering giants to play in a university food court is all right by us.

This semester doesn’t appear to be any different. Alan Chesbro, the commissioner of AS Presents, along with his staff, is bringing more brilliant independent acts our way. This week sees rockers Pinback sharing the stage with MC Chris, a goofy guy who’s positioning himself as one of the leaders of hip hop’s burgeoning nerd core scene.

Chris, in his second appearance on the north coast, is recognizable as the voice actor behind Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s MC Pee Pants and other work for the Cartoon Network. Art rockers Pinback bring new songs in addition to classics, as they tour in support of their 2007 Touch And Go Records release, _Autumn Of The Seraphs_.

Coming up in April, the twin-sister rock duo of Tegan And Sarah grace the Kate Buchanan Room stage on the 19th of the month. After quickly rising to success in a Canadian music competition, the pair was offered a record deal with Neal Young’s Vapor Records. Since then, they’ve released two critically acclaimed albums and continuously refine their folk rock sound.
