Remarkable Summit Between Humboldt State and College of the Redwoods

Leaders from Humboldt State and College of the Redwoods gathered for a recent summit to discuss potential collaborations that will strengthen the institutions’ commitment to supporting students and helping them earn a bachelor’s degree.

The summit, hosted at CR, brought together HSU President Tom Jackson, Jr. and CR President Keith Flamer, plus leaders who represented various academic and administrative departments from both campuses.

To provide more opportunities for students, participants of the event on October 7 addressed sharing efforts in several areas, including joint academic programs, admissions, intercollegiate athletics, university housing, campus safety.

Collaborations between HSU and CR are already underway. Under a new partnership, CR students and employees can check out books and access other resources at HSU’s Library for free without an annual membership. CR recently announced the creation of three new degree pathways that will prepare CR students in Social Justice, Environmental Science, and Social Work and Human Services to attend Humboldt State University and other four-year schools. In March, HSU announced the launch of an RN to BSN nursing program. Set to begin in Fall 2020, the program—which was created with the help of CR and other partners—will allow registered nurses who already have an associate’s degree to complete their bachelor’s degree in nursing at Humboldt State.

Leaders from both institutions look forward to continuing to develop additional opportunities for collaboration in support of students seeking higher education on the North Coast.
