Professors Bring ‘Favorite Lectures’ to Town

A trio of Humboldt State University professors will deliver their favorite lecture in downtown Arcata this fall, as part of a new series sponsored by Arcata Main Street and KHSU Public Radio.

The series, called “My Favorite Lecture,” will be in front of a live audience and recorded to air later on KHSU. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

All lectures will be on the second Thursday of the month at the Plaza Grill View Room, with support from Plaza Grill.

—The first lecture is on “The Undiscovered Universe” by C.D Hoyle of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. It will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8. A “Taste of Arcata” reception featuring complimentary appetizers and a no-host bar starts at 6 p.m.
— The series’ second lecture will be by Ben Marschke of the Department of History, who will talk about “Witches: Sex and Science in the Sixteenth Century.” It will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, and will be preceded by a 6 p.m. reception.
— The series’ final lecture of the fall will be by Maral Attallah of the Department of Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies. The topic of her talk is still being determined. It will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, and will be preceded by a 6 p.m. reception.

The “Taste of Arcata” reception at 6 p.m. before each lecture will feature complimentary appetizers from PastaLuego and other local favorites; wine, cider, and beer for sale from North Story Wines, Wrangletown Cider, and Redwood Curtain Brewery; and a no-host bar.
