Jack Attack is a born-again fan program for HSU students. The goal of Jack Attack is to cheer on HSU athletes, while bringing students together. “It really means a lot to the HSU athletes to have their fellow students come out and support them,” said Stephanie Lane, assistant director of Athletics.

Lane and John Hughes, a member of Associated Students, were sitting down one day discussing a way to integrate students and sports when they thought, “why not get a student group going again on campus?” A mission statement and sign-up sheet later, the Jack Attack was reborn.

“I hope students like the Jack Attack and I welcome any ideas if students have them,” Lane said. Lane will be handing over the program to Hughes and Lane’s student intern Kylee Chandler.

The three have big plans for Jack Attack fans, like midnight basketball, contests in the residence halls and premiere seating for students at Jacks’ games. “It will be a lot of fun for everyone involved,” Hughes said.

To become a Jack Attacker all you have to do is sign up at the Jack Attack booth at the games. This entails filling out a form with your name, student ID, class standing, email address and favorite HSU sport. The program will email its participants upcoming events and opportunities to support their Jacks during practices, games and exclusive events.

Upon sign up, you will receive a free yellow Jack Attack t-shirt that you are required to wear at each event. Humboldt Outfitters, a sponsor, is providing shirts for the Jack Attack’s first game, set for the Sept. 8 football game against the Central Washington Wildcats. The game will be broadcasted live on CBS Sports Network.

At that game, the Marching Lumberjacks will be on the east side of the field and the Jack Attack, in their yellow t-shirts, will be jumping up and cheering next to them. “I’m hoping the first game will be a really great way to kick off Jack Attack,” Hughes said.

“Every fan of HSU is getting a white t-shirt to white out the stands, except the Jack Attack fans, who will be wearing their yellow Jack Attack shirts,” Lane said. “Lets get spirit going!”

Look for the yellow t-shirts and banners saying ‘Jack Attack’ on Sept. 8 and come support your fellow students in our live broadcasted football game.
