Student Health Center Urges Flu Preventive Measures

Humboldt State University’s Student Health and Wellness Center reports a spike in recent days in influenza cases and urges the campus community to take precautionary measures.

“Currently we have patients lined up in the halls and I urge everyone to consult the Health Center’s website and the posting, ‘What to do if you get the flu,’” said Center Director Mary Grooms VanCott. The address is www.humboldt.edu/health and it carries a link on its face page to the posting. A further source is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta at http://www.cdc.gov/flu/keyfacts.htm. VanCott cautioned against alarm, saying the spike has not reached pandemic levels. “The increase follows spring break and we think students brought the flu back with them,” she said. “There has been an upward trend lately in California.”
