Student Wins Piano Competition

Pianist and freshman HSU student Rebekah Downey was the regional winner at this year's California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) state competition. She then competed at the state level, performing the music of Scarlatti, Schumann and Copland, and won second place.

A resident of Fortuna, Downey is a freshman piano major at HSU. She has studied piano since the age of 8, and viola since age 13. She began piano studies with Rosie Bosco and has been a student of HSU professor Dr. Lynne Garrett’s for the past three years.

“Rebekah is a delightful student…..she is a person of much integrity, takes her studies seriously, and plays from her heart.” says Lynne Garrett.
