The HSU Junior Social Work Methods Class invites the community to attend the free, culminating event of its spring semester when a variety of groups will have their voices heard, representing the community’s older adults, youth from various backgrounds, young parents, veterans, and people with mental health issues, on Tues., May 8, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room.

Students in the class have been working with various groups in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties to provide under-represented populations an opportunity to share their stories with the greater community.

Multiple mediums will be used, such as poetry, narrative, dance, photography and film, to illuminate the experiences of those who are often without a voice in the community’s decision making. There will be an assortment of media displays, live presentations and opportunities to obtain resources and information regarding the issues addressed.

The keynote speaker is Geneva Wiki, a member of the Yurok Tribe and director of the Klamath Early College of the Redwoods program. Smithsonian magazine named her one of “thirty-five people under thirty-five making a difference” and she will be among those featured in the magazine’s may issue.

All are encouraged to attend and refreshments will be served.
