AS Solicits Candidates for April Elections

HSU Associated Students is encouraging as many candidates as possible to run for key campus government offices in the elections slated for April 20, 21 and 22.

Election packets are now available for a quartet of executive officers and twelve A.S. Council Members. Executive officers up for election include President, Legislative Vice President, Administrative Vice President, and Student Affairs Vice President.

Past A.S. officers speak highly of the advantages they gained in leadership and organization skills, policy and decision making and their post-graduation careers. Within two years, HSU alum Manolo Platin became leader of the CSSA, representing the California State University's 440,000 students to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Former A.S. President Nicole Alvarado took her experience straight into the non-profit sector and credits Associated Students for the skills and experience that has allowed her to work with seasoned professionals in her field. Two-time A.S. President Gretchen Kinney Newsom used her leadership experience to enter the California Executive Fellowship Program and go on to become deputy policy director on a statewide gubernatorial campaign.

A.S. programs include AS Presents, Campus Recycling, CCAT, the Children's Center, Graduation Pledge Alliance, MultiCultural Center, Student Access Gallery, SLAM Festival, Women's Resource Center and Youth Educational Services (Y.E.S.).

Time commitments for A.S. offices vary depending on the position and level of responsibility. Stipends are available.
