The scavenger hunt begins on the Quad, where students will be given a map leading them to seven campus departments and offices. Each will highlight their services and resources and hand out preparedness-related gear such as a solar lantern, paracord bracelet, and water purification tablets. (Please note items are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis).
“We all understand the importance of being prepared for emergencies,” says Cris Koczera, HSU’s Emergency Management Coordinator. “But we’re hoping the scavenger hunt reinforces that point in a concrete way and, at the same time, help students build a preparedness kit.”
Koczera says students will receive safety information, plus suggestions on apps for updates on weather and ocean conditions, and emergencies, including:
NOAA Weather Radar: Rain forecast and storm alerts.
Rave Guardian: HSU students can send automatic alerts to friends and family in case of an emergency, report anonymous tips, and call 911.
Red Cross: Disaster and emergency updates.
