Bright Lights Shine on Traditional South Asian Festival

“Diwali Prakash,” a holiday rooted in Hindu tradition, is the focus of a celebration scheduled for 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Kate Buchanan Room on the Humboldt State campus.

Eleven countries observe Diwali Prakash, also known as the South Asian “Festival of Lights,” which features lights, fireworks and sweets. The HSU event will feature a performance by the Ya Habibi Dance Company.

Activities will include Rangoli, folk art that involves sand painting, and Dandiya Raas, a traditional dance from India. There will also be a chess tournament and the board games “Ludo” and “Carrom."

The event is sponsored by HSU’s Associated Students, the Multicultural Center, Global Connections Club, Center for International Programs, College of Professional Studies, and Retention and Inclusive Student Success.
