Campus Hosts English Workshop

Since July 24 HSU has been host to 26 international students and teachers, here to complete a four-week program on teaching and learning English through drama and theatre.

The students involved in this workshop came looking to improve their English and participate in theatre. The teachers, on the other hand, are focusing on the incorporation of theatre techniques in English-teaching curriculum.

The students are from Germany, France, Morocco, Japan, Taiwan, Nicaragua, and Mexico -- 19 being from Oaxaca and HSU partnering school Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca, marking the first contingent of an exchange agreement between the two institutions.

The program runs through August 18 and is a joint production of HSU's "California Institute of English Language and Theatre" and the "Prague Institute of Language and Theatre."

HSU's John Heckel of the theatre department and Don Andrews of the International English Language Institute, along with Barbora Dockalova-Müller of the Prague Institute of Language and Theatre, are lead instructors for the program.
