Campus Hosts Marrow Drive for Alum

Arcata – Humboldt State University will host a bone marrow registration in early October on behalf of a recent alum, Kyle Hendry (political science, ’07), who has just completed another round of chemotherapy for treatment of leukemia. He will need a transplant in about six weeks.

The registration drive is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, and Wednesday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Nelson Hall East, Room 113. Registration takes only about 10 minutes. Donors are asked to complete a brief health questionnaire and undergo a cheek swab. It is painless and free. Donors of many ethnic backgrounds are sought for testing because the marrow database needs more diversity to provide treatment for as many patients as possible.

The HSU initiative is sponsored by “Be the Match,” a part of the National Bone Marrow Registry. Information is available from Keelye Wilson, Sponsored Programs Foundation, at kw4@humboldt.edu. Details about bone marrow donations are at www.marrow.org.
