Curtis Named Human Resources Chief

Tammy Curtis, Associate Director of Human Resources at Humboldt State University, has been named Director of Human Resources, succeeding Mary C. Fischer, effective immediately. Ms. Curtis, an HSU alumna (‘71), has been associate director of the unit since 1998, where she administered human resources programs.

Ms. Curtis, an HSU alumna (‘71), has been associate director of the unit since 1998, where she administered human resources programs. Her responsibilities included consulting and advising University management on legal and practical issues regarding employee relations, organizational structure, employee performance and development, contract interpretations, discipline and layoff processes, and developing and drafting policy and procedures. She also administered the grievance process.

Prior to her service as Associate Director, Ms. Curtis served for 14 years (1984-1998) as an Administrator in HSU's Department of Public Safety, where she administered general department operations, including budget, acquisitions and payroll, and supervised Public Safety Dispatchers.

Ms. Curtis has extensive training in communications, personnel management, labor and employment law, emergency and crisis management, sexual harassment, and state compensation and classification.

She is active in campus and community endeavors, including emergency operations, student affairs, and strategic planning for human resources. She is a member of Soroptimist International of Arcata, and an Associate Member of Humboldt Sponsors.
