The conference will feature fifteen engaging lectures from local speakers on the theme “I found it!”— the famous phrase uttered by Greek scholar Archimedes when he discovered the scientific principle of buoyancy.

HSU faculty members will present on the following topics:

  • Michael Fields, Theatre Film and Dance: Why Laugh? Why Here? Why Now?
  • Tami Matsumoto, Mathematics: “MATH: Useful, Interesting, and Exciting!”
  • Monica Stephens, Geography: “The Frightening Future of Digital Maps”
  • Sheri Woo, Environmental Resources Engineering: “Mad River Water: Use it or Lose it”

The TED Conference brings together the world’s leading thinkers in Long Beach, California every year to speak for 18 minutes on “ideas worth spreading.” Past speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, and United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown. TEDx events are local, independently arranged programs organized in the same spirit as the conference.

Eureka’s TEDx event is sponsored by the Headwaters Fund, DANCO, HealthSPORT and Cypress Grove Chevre. Tickets are $60 each and available through tedxeureka.com. Seating is limited. A live web stream of the conference will be available at tedxeureka.com. For more information, email Michael@tedxeureka.com or visit ted.com/tedx.
