Firemen from three districts completed a training burn on July 30 of an abandoned house on Humboldt State University property at the corner of L.K. Wood Blvd. and Granite Ave.
Forty one firemen from Arcata Fire District, the Eureka Fire District and the Humboldt County Fire District No. 1 conducted a series of room-burn training drills before setting the entire structure ablaze at about 1 p.m.
Justin McDonald, assistant fire chief for the Arcata Fire District, said the training enabled firemen from three districts to participate in a planned burn, some for the first time. “This was a great way for new volunteers to gain joint experience and everything went as planned,” he said.
University Police coordinated logistics and directed traffic at the scene.
