Forty one firemen from Arcata Fire District, the Eureka Fire District and the Humboldt County Fire District No. 1 conducted a series of room-burn training drills before setting the entire structure ablaze at about 1 p.m.

Justin McDonald, assistant fire chief for the Arcata Fire District, said the training enabled firemen from three districts to participate in a planned burn, some for the first time. “This was a great way for new volunteers to gain joint experience and everything went as planned,” he said.

University Police coordinated logistics and directed traffic at the scene.
