Grads Recognized at HSU Virtual Ceremonies

HSU’s class of 2020 graduated on Saturday in a virtual ceremony full of good spirits and inspiring messages for the future.

Students who recorded short video clips were featured in the ceremony, and their creativity and resilience were a hallmark of the commencement ceremony, which was shifted to a live broadcast in response to COVID-19.

Students, family members, staff, and faculty watched the ceremonies, sharing messages of congratulations, thanks, and Lumberjack spirit. In all, more than 7,500 viewers tuned into the three ceremony videos. Many then gathered online for virtual receptions held by academic departments – sharing memories, offering career advice, and enjoying the moment together.

More than 2,100 students will earn credentials and bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Humboldt State this year. Academic departments celebrated with their graduates in smaller virtual receptions via zoom.

Videos, photos, and messages that were submitted by students are archived on HSU’s Commencement website, where you can also download a high-resolution version of a composite image featuring hundreds of graduates. The full videos of the ceremonies are available to watch on HSU’s YouTube channel.

HSU is hoping to be able to hold an in-person Commencement ceremony, possibly next spring. But given the circumstances due to the pandemic and everyone’s safety, the virtual ceremony was the first step in recognizing the class of 2020.

Graduates are encouraged to sign up for Forever Humboldt, HSU’s association of alumni and others who are connected to the University. Forever Humboldt helps alumni keep connections with each other, showcases HSU pride, and encourages support of HSU students.
