HSU Expects Record Frosh Orientation

Arcata – Humboldt State University anticipates record numbers of freshmen this summer at four sessions of its annual Humboldt Orientation Program.

The HOP, which provides students and families with up-to-date information about Humboldt State course offerings, class registration and campus resources, also acquaints new students and their families with the communities of Arcata, Eureka, Ferndale, Fortuna and Crescent City.

At least 300 hundred students are expected for each HOP gathering in preparation for the Fall 2009 semester. This could mean a total of 600 to 900 visitors will be touring the campus and Humboldt County. For many students and their families, this is a first-time visit to the North Coast and often they opt for an extended stay through the weekend. This enables area businesses, restaurants, hotels and bed-and-breakfasts to host them.

Following are the 2009 Summer HOP dates:

First session: Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19.

Second session: Thursday and Friday, June 25 and 26.

Third session: Thursday and Friday, July 9 and 10.

Fourth session: August 19-21
