HSU Forum Asks, “Online College for All?”

A student-led panel at Humboldt State University will examine the pros and cons of online education on Monday, March 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Great Hall above the College Creek Apartment complex on Harpst Street.

Sponsored by the College of Professional Studies and HSU’s Department of Economics, the evening forum is titled “What’s Next? Online College for All?”

The panel will comprise Alex Hwu, associate vice president of Humboldt State’s Distance Learning and eLearning program; Jamie Jensen, director of Distributed Learning in HSU’s Department of Social Work; Duncan Robins, chair of the online major in Leadership Studies; Kerri Malloy, an HSU student who plans to pursue a master’s degree online; and Johni Watson, a local nurse who completed her bachelor’s degree online.

Members of the panel will share the latest research and data on the state of online education and whether, for example, online delivery courses and degrees actually reduces college costs. The panelists will take questions from the audience and share their professional and personal experiences with online learning. The campus community, the press and the general public are invited to attend. Admission is free and refreshments will be served afterward.
