HSU Hosts Quake/Tsunami Exhibit at County Fair

For the 13th consecutive year, Humboldt State University, the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group and the California Emergency Management Agency will sponsor the Earthquake Tsunami Exhibit at the Humboldt County Fair, Aug. 15-26. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Hindley Hall in the commercial building.

Titled “Peace of Mind in Earthquake Country,” this year’s exhibit will feature the latest information about the Japan tsunami debris beginning to arrive on the North Coast, plus an updated, interactive tsunami kiosk with videos of the 2011Japanese disaster.

The HSU exhibit also presents a tsunami theater, a tsunami wave tank and a “make-your-own-earthquake-in-a-pail” liquefaction exhibit.

Knowledgeable staff will answer questions about earthquakes, tsunamis and how to prepare for them. Free educational materials will be available to the public. They include new community tsunami brochures and evacuation zone maps, new information for commercial and recreational boaters and California tsunami posters. The perennial Living on Shaky Ground, the 32-page booklet of readiness tips, also will be free to the public.
