HSU Hosts Two-Day Diversity in Learning and Teaching Workshop

Humboldt State University will host a two-day Diversity in Learning and Teaching Institute on Wednesday, May 19th, and Thursday, May 20th, for faculty, staff and administrators.

A series of keynote presentations and workshops will address a full spectrum of student and pedagogical needs, including active learning and strategies for enhancing the academic success of students from diverse backgrounds. Scheduled keynoters are Tuajuanda Jordan, director of science education alliance grants and special programs at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a specialist in retention of under-represented students in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and technology); Ken Baines, author of the prize-winning 2004 book, What the Best College Teachers Do; and JoAnn Moody, director of the Northeast Consortium for Faculty Diversity, who specializes in the recruitment, mentorship and retention of underrepresented faculty and graduate students and women in STEM disciplines. She is the author of Faculty Diversity: Problems and Solutions, which will be published in a second edition in 2011.
