Humboldt State’s Preview Days are Now Free

To encourage more students to consider HSU and visit campus, the University has eliminated the $25 registration fee for Preview.

Offered in the fall and spring, Preview is a one-day open house that provides prospective students and their families a glimpse of HSU, Arcata, and the college experience. HSU will also eliminate the $50 family orientation fee, as well.

The fee was implemented in 2016 as a way to cover costs of Preview during the University’s budget challenges.

Interim VP of Enrollment Management Jason L. Meriwether says eliminating the fee will help families and prospective students who are traveling to campus for a visit.

“The costs of Preview and orientation created unnecessary financial barriers for families, especially those who live locally,” he says. “By making visits to campus free for students and their families, we are creating more opportunities for new and transfer students to experience the academics, the people, and the surrounding environment that all make Humboldt special.”

Under HSU’s new president, Tom Jackson, Jr., the University aims to increase enrollment through several measures, including a renewed focus on recruiting students in local high schools and community colleges throughout the state.

“We’re rekindling partnerships with schools in the area, the state, and across the country to attract more students to the gem that’s in their backyard,” says Director of Admissions Pedro Martinez. Martinez is also placing focus on recruiting more students across the state and the country who will benefit from this change.

HSU is also reinstating instant admissions at Preview. Students meet with Admissions counselors and can find out on the spot if they’ve been admitted to HSU. Students also have a chance to meet with staff and current students, learn about academic majors, student activities, and campus resources, and tour the campus.
