L.K. Wood Repaving to Finish Aug. 21

ARCATA—The L.K. Wood Boulevard repaving project has been rescheduled to be completed by Friday, Aug. 21 – a bit behind the original schedule, but still in time for the start of fall classes

The northbound lane of L.K. Wood Boulevard reopened on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The lane will accommodate two-way traffic, allowing access to all campus entrance points with the exception of Harpst Street. Pedestrians are advised to take precautions crossing L.K. Wood Boulevard at 14th Street as construction crews are scheduled to work on an open trench along the southbound lanes.

Humboldt State University’s Department of Plant Operations is overseeing the repaving of L.K. Wood Boulevard from 14th Street to Sunset Avenue.

In a conservation measure, the ground-up pavement is being recycled as the base for the campus’s Harpst Street entrance, which was moved north on L.K. Wood to make room for the new College Creek Apartments. The housing project, which will provide housing for 430 students and feature a large community center, is one-third complete and on schedule. It is slated to open to students fall semester 2010.

HSU is responsible for L.K. Wood maintenance under an agreement with the City of Arcata. The new asphalt will bolster safety by eliminating multiplying chuck holes and graveling. The refurbishment also will address drainage issues.
