HSU Athletics highlights from the week of September 21.

Men’s Soccer Team No. 13 in the Nation
Humboldt State men’s soccer team is No. 13 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Top 25 Poll that was released last week. The Lumberjacks have opened their season with five straight shutouts for the first time in program history. The ‘Jacks hosted Chico State on Saturday. Granados Named CCAA Runner of the Week
Lumberjack junior runner Rosa Granados was named the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance in the Jim Hunt Invitational. Granados won the 6K women’ race to lead the ‘Jacks to a second place finish. Over on the men’s side, Shane Burton finished in fifth place to lead the ‘Jacks to a second place finish in the 8k men’s race. Volleyball Starts Off CCAA Play 1-1
Humboldt State’s volleyball team went 1-1 in its opening weekend in the CCAA. The Jacks opened with a four-set loss at Cal State Los Angeles despite Lindsey McLaughlin’s 13 kills. HSU bounced back on Saturday, Sept. 18 with a four-set win at Cal State Dominguez Hills as both Lenox Loving and Riley White each had double-doubles and McLaughlin had eight total blocks. Women’s Soccer Finishes Off Road Trip 1-1
The Lumberjack women’s soccer team went 1-1 on their Bay Area road trip with a 1-0 loss at Menlo College and a 3-0 win over Holy Names. The Jacks lost 1-0 to Menlo College in Atherton and then bounced back with a 3-0 win over Holy Names. Mia Castaneda led the way with the game-winning goal and an assist for the 3-2-1 Jacks.
