Outstanding Student Nods Include Arcata Grad

Arcata – Dedicated to “Students Who Make a Difference,” the 71 nominees for this year’s Humboldt State University Outstanding Student Awards include Ranjan Hatch of Arcata, who was recently named a 2009-2010 Fulbright Scholar to teach English, math and science in Malaysia.

Hatch, a graduating senior in cellular and molecular biology, is also a Montgomery Scholarship recipient.

Outstanding Student Award ceremonies will be held in the Kate Buchanan Room at University Center on Thursday, April 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Students will be honored in nine categories: Excellence in an Academic Discipline; Academic Excellence and Achievement; the Patricia O. McConkey Award for Outstanding Graduate Thesis; Outstanding Contributions to a Campus Club, Program or Organization and Outstanding Contributions to an Associated Students Program; Al Elpusan Award for Student Activism; Brian Lorensen Residence Life Staff Award; Award for Excellence in Intercollegiate Athletics or Sports Club; and Award for Excellence in Community Service.

The nominees will be hosted by President Rollin Richmond; Steven Butler, Vice President of Student Affairs; Chris Hopper, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies; and Sociology Professor Jennifer Eichstedt, Outstanding Professor of the Year.
