Where are you originally from?
Berry Creek, Calif.
Where did you complete your education?
I did my graduate work at UC Santa Cruz.
Where have you taught prior to coming to HSU?
I taught at CSU Chico before doing my post-doctoral research.
What do you feel are are your specific areas of expertise?
I am a Biochemist with a special passion for membrane proteins and surface proteins, and their interactions with the environment.

CHEM 431 Biochemistry
What attracted you to Humboldt State?
The ability to really interact with students from diverse backgrounds, and assist in the learning process.
What do you do in your free time (if you have any) outside the classroom?
I have three kids, so taking them into nature is one of favorite activities. I also love sculpture and painting.
What is your favorite classroom technique to engage students?
Peer-led activities.
What is the best thing about being a university professor?
Interacting with students and finding out what excites them about science.
Where is the strangest place you’ve done research?
In a cold room late at night.
If you weren’t an HSU professor, what would you be?
A research scientist or artist.
What superpower would be most valuable to your research?
Molecular vision: the ability to see molecules in action on the atomic scale.

I am originally from Seoul, South Korea.
Where did you complete your education?
Central Michigan University and Oregon State University
Where have you taught prior to coming to HSU?
Central Michigan University.
What are your specific areas of expertise?
Qualitative research methods, mothering a child with autism, early childhood development.

CD 257: Supervised Work with Children I.
What attracted you to Humboldt State?
Creativity and enthusiasm students build a supportive learning community.
What do you do in your free time outside the classroom?
Walking with my cat, canoeing, hiking, watching movies, and cooking
What is your favorite classroom technique to engage students?
I would like to encourage students to connect their past, present, and future through discussion and self-reflection. Simulation or game followed by discussion works well too.
What is the best thing about being a university professor?
Engaging with students who are excited about learning!
Where is the strangest place you’ve done research?
At a fast food restaurant, subway station, & department store
If you weren’t an HSU professor, what would you be?
Maybe a cartoonist, writer, or chef? The possibilities are endless!
What superpower would be most valuable to your research?
Completing up a spotlessly polished manuscript in one sitting! Haha!
