Campus Reform Ideas Getting Reviewed

Humboldt State's Expanded University Executive Committee recently met about a proposed series of campus reform proposals, and has forwarded the proposals to campus governance groups. The groups - Academic Senate, Associated Students, Staff Council and the University Executive Committee - have been asked for feedback by March 9.

The expanded Committee also signaled its intent to create a steering group to oversee implementation of the reforms, pending the response from campus groups.

The reform proposals were made by the Cabinet for Institutional Change, following a one-year review of various challenges facing the campus. The group's efforts included extensive consultation with the campus community through forums, small-group discussions and more.

Proposals include overhauling campus governance as well as a series of actions related to the University’s vision, ensuring student success, bolstering diversity and instilling “a culture of evidence."

The Cabinet’s report, “Building the Capacity for Change: Improving the Structure and Culture of Decision-Making at HSU,” is available at http://change.humboldt.edu

President Richmond praised the work of the Cabinet, saying, “We all owe a significant thanks to the Provost and the members of the CIC for their diligent and caring work on behalf of Humboldt State University.”

Richmond said that he will share the results of the review by governance groups with the campus community during the week of March 15.
