Suspicious Backpack Leads University Police to Marijuana Bust

What seemed like an effort to deter a bicycle thief resulted in an arrest and the seizure of more than 10 pounds of marijuana products.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, Humboldt State University Police arrested Dakota Demery McGovern for possession of marijuana/hashish for sale and probation violation.

HSU Sergeant Janelle Jackson first spotted McGovern near Granite Ave. Jackson stopped McGovern and determined he was currently on probation. He was searched and found to be in possession of 900 individual packets of compressed marijuana and more than 400 individual packets of concentrated cannabis. McGovern was subsequently arrested and transferred to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
