Tribal Leader Forges Agency Collaboration

Tom Lidot, a member of the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indians of Alaska and a member of the Chilkat Indian Village, will speak on strengthening collaboration between tribes and county agencies at a one-day conference on Friday, Jan. 8 at Humboldt State University.

Lidot will address “What Do We Need to Weave a Stronger Community?” He will keynote the conference, “Weaving Good Relations: Working Together to Strengthen Agency Collaboration.”

The day-long forum is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. with Lidot’s speech in the Native Forum adjoining the Behavioral and Social Sciences Building. Other scheduled speakers are Dr. Rosalind Hussong, director of behavioral health services, Feather River Tribal Health, and Edward Walker, interim director, Butte County Department of Health.

The conference, including workgroup sessions and panel discussions, will be offered jointly by HSU’s Department of Social Work and the Northern California Training Academy, UC Davis Extension. It is aimed at bettering relationships among county social service agencies, county probation departments, tribal social services and Humboldt State’s Department of Social Work.

With a format based on a Gathering of Native Americans, the forum will bring together authorities and staff in child welfare, mental health, probation and tribal social services from Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. HSU graduate students will attend.
